Actions Day Returns In 2023 After A Four-Year Hiatus

 

On Wednesday March 15, 2023, twenty – two Meridian High School students were able to compete once again at the Actions Day academic competition at Central Community College Hastings Campus. This was the first time since the spring of 2020 that Actions Day was held. Due to the COVID -19 pandemic, the academic contest was cancelled for the past four years, but now Actions Day made its return in 2023.  The Meridian students left early in the morning for the trip to CCC Hastings to match wits with over 800 students from surrounding southeastern high schools in forty different subject areas.

 

The Meridian students competed well and came away with their best showing at Actions Day ever going back to the initial contest in 2000. Meridian students who were nominated by Meridian teachers to attend were:  Seniors: Bailey Holtmeier, Kailyn Paul, Andon Sales, Amber Vinsonhaler Juniors: Jackson Huls, Kolton Kumpf, Peyton Norine, Kymber Schwisow, Evelyn Woitalewicz Sophomores: Shaysah Burkhart, Taelyn Filipi, McKenzie Hofstetter, Jaylee Sobotka, Samuel Thomas Freshmen: Landon Griggs, Christian Guenther, Coby Huls, Ally Krumwiede, Olivia Schafer, Luke Seeman, Kyan Sones and Jenna Woitalewicz.

 

Students placing in the top five of their subjects were: Senior Kailyn Paul placed 1st in Zoology and English II, 4th in Music, Juniors: Evelyn Woitalewicz placed 1st in Word Problems and Syllabication; Peyton Norine placed 3rd in Family and Consumer Science; Sophomores: McKenzie Hoffstetter placed 4th in Zoology; Samuel Thomas placed 5th in Nicknames; Freshman Luke Seeman placed 3rd in World Geography and 4th in American History. Congratulations to the place winners and all the Meridian students who competed. A job well done!
