2020 Red Ribbon Week

October 27, 2020

Red Ribbon Week was celebrated at the elementary and high school the week of October 26-29th.  The theme this year was Be Happy, Be Brave, Be Healthy, Be Drug Free.

Be Happy - Monday, students wore red (see pictures).  Cole Stark spoke to the 7-12 students in the morning and to the K-6 grade students in the afternoon.

Be Brave - Tuesday, students were allowed to dress as their superhero.  For lunch, the kitchen made "Hero" sandwiches for the noon meal.

The Daykin and Alexandria units brought their fire trucks and ambulances for the elementary students to view.  We had representatives here from Alexandria, Daykin, Tobias, and Western.  They gave a very informative presentation on fire safety and need for medical care.  Alexandria Unit - Evan Skiles, Sheila Durflinger, Diane Vorderstrasse; Daykin Unit - Doug Brandt, Jimmy Simms, Lorrie Hofstetter; Tobias - Casey Hansen; Western - Rodney Nickel, Dwight Nickel (note Dwight has been with the Western Unit for 46 years); Ohiowa

The Elementary Student Council presented each unit with a plaque which read, "Not all HEROES wear a cape  YOU ARE OUR HERO  Thank you for being our "Heroes" in protecting our communities in both FIRE and MEDICAL ASSISTANCE."

All elementary students were able to go outside and see 2 firetrucks and 2 ambulances up close, some even got to sound the sirens and honk the horns! Thank you to those who came out and educated our students on fire safety and what it’s like to be a first responder in our surrounding communities!  (Sse pictures)

Be Healthy -  Wednesday, students in all grades went on a scavenger hunt to learn facts on drug and tobacco use. Upon arriving at each post, students had different exercises they had to do before reading their question.   If they answered the question correctly, they were directed to their next post.  Incorrectly, they had to take the long way around.    At the end of the six posts, they enjoyed a healthy snack of bottled water donated by the FBLA and a "Cutie" donated by Thrivent Action Team/ M-PIE.

Be Drug Free - Thursday, students could dress as any Halloween character.  Deputy Kruz Schoenrock spoke to the elementary in the morning and to the High school in the afternoon on illicit drugs.
