Bridges! Bridges! Bridges!

Math Student, Toothpicks, and Glue Unite

April 05, 2019

All 8-12 math students enrolled in Ms Weber’s math classes were recently faced with a challenge.  They were asked to build bridges out of nothing more than toothpicks and white school glue. The bridges were tested by placing salt in a bucket that was hanging from the bridge.

The winning bridge was determined by comparing the weight the bridge held to the actual bridge weight.  The top bridge only weighed 46 grams and held 16.1 kilograms!!

The top five bridges in the competition are listed below.

Zach Kerwood and Samantha Karenbauer – held 350 grams per gram of bridge weight

Lane Barton and Corin Paul – held 308 grams per gram of bridge weight

Kolby Schafer and Peyton VanWesten – held 232 grams per gram of bridge weight

Anizza Gonzales, Bailey Holtmeier, and Kailyn Paul – held 225 grams per gram of bridge weight

Garrett Klipp and Fred Kujath – held 201 grams per gram of bridge weight
