Meridian Enrichment Program Celebrates Twenty-Four Years!

The Meridian Enrichment Program for High Ability Learners started in 1987 with a group of teachers, parents, community members, administration, a school counselor and a certified gifted coordinator forming a steering committee to assess the needs of the district for a gifted program.  Surveys were given to parents, students, school teachers and staff, and community members.  The results overwhelmingly indicated the need for a gifted program.  So, in January of 1988, a pull-out program was started with students from grades K-12 in the areas of academics, intelligence, creativity, leadership and visual and performing arts.  The program is in its twenty-first year and it has served more than two hundred students in the District.  Currently, there are thirty-seven students identified, with the identification committee monitoring nineteen other students for possible placement in the future.  This is a testament that the Meridian District is committed to meeting the needs of all students, including the high ability learners.
