One Acts Place Third At Districts

December 06, 2016

The Meridian One Act team had a successful season.  The 36 students earned 7 superior ratings in three contests.  They presented, “The Idiot and the Oddity,” by Doug Rand, produced by special arrangement with Playscripts, Inc. www.playschrips.com .  The play is a parody on Ancient Greece.  The story: In order to earn her stripes as a full-fledged deity, Polaris must help Protagonis (the loser kid brother of Odysseus) understand the core social problems of Ancient Greek culture. The parody journeys from the divine halls of Mount Olympus, to the courts of Creon and Agamemnon, and to the Isolated Nether-Island of Infamous Evil Greek Women.

At the Osceola invite on Wednesday, November 9, the team earned two superior ratings, and acting recognition went to Connor Paul, Jackie Dimas, and Sophie Ellis!  Meridian earned two more superior ratings at the CRC south conference and finished 4th out of 7 teams. Acting recognition went to Jack Neihouse, Isaiah Ellis, Connor Paul, Allison Klipp, and Sophie Ellis. The one act placed 3rd at districts! Outstanding performance awards went to Jack Neihouse, Isaiah Ellis, Halle Pribyl, Hailey Schafer, Jaicee Sobotka, Josiee Sobotka, Erin Johnson, Connor Paul, Brianna Barton, Micah Noel, Allison Klipp, Jackie Dimas, Breanna Miller, Spohie Ellis, and Charly Lufkin! Meridian had the most with 15!

The team also presented a matinee to the elementary students, and a night of play and pastry to the community.  Thank you to those that brought pastries and food for Tuesday night and Wednesday. Our patrons and guests rave about our smorgasbord.  A special thanks to Mr. Kort, Mr. Placek and the Art Department, Mike Hofstetter, Kenny Falck, Mr. Trautman, Rene’ Scheer, Mrs. Noel, Beatrice Community Playhouse, Trish Endorf, the entire Meridian staff, parents, students, and anyone else we may have inadvertently omitted who have lent their talents and support whenever the need arose.  Without your help, we would not have been successful bringing you this production. THANK YOU!
