DAYKIN - The Daykin-Meridian Mustangs defeated the Deshler Dragons
46-20 Friday night in Daykin.
“Our running game was very solid,” said Daykin-Meridian coach Clint
Jones, “it set up our passing attack well.”
“We did a great job stopping their option attack, forcing them to
throw,” Jones added.
Meridian opened the game’s scoring on a 49-yard run by Ryan Meyer.
Jonah Jordening threw to Dustin Rohr for the extra point, 8-0.
Deshler responded by scoring on a one yard touchdown run, but
failed to convert the PAT, leaving Meridian with an 8-6 lead.
In the second quarter Meridian’s Ryan Meyer scored on a six-yard
run. The two point conversion was a pass from Jordening to Rohr the
score now 16-6.
Deshler scores again this time on an 11-yard run, 16-12.
Rohr scored on a five yard pass from Jordening, Meyer ran in the
two point conversion, ending the first half of the game with the
Mustangs ahead 24-12.
In the third quarter Mustang Brian Heiserman scored on a 31-yard
run. Heiserman then ran in the two point conversion, ending the
third with Daykin leading 32-12.
In the final quarter, Rohr scored on a 25-yard pass from Jordening,
helping Daykin to a 38-12 lead.
Heiserman then scored on a one yard run. The two point conversion
was a pass from Rohr to Shane Roesler for a 46-12 advantage.
The Deshler Dragons score on a 10-yard run and successful two point
conversion to end the game with a score of 46-20.
Next action for the Mustangs will be Friday at Freeman.
