The Elementary observed Fire Prevention Week October 4th - 10th. Each class is participating in activities that promote fire safety awareness. Kindergarten took home a Fire Escape Plan to practice with their family. 1st and 2nd Grades discussed their Weekly Reader concerning fire safety and practiced "stop, drop and roll." 3rd Grade watched two videos entitled "What makes a Fire Burn?" and "Firefighters and Fire Safety." The 3rd Graders then discussed useful information for fire safety. Grades 4th, 5th and 6th used the Internet to watch short videos regarding fire safety and awareness and played safety games.
On Tuesday, October 6th Daniel Durflinger and Jason Buchli brought the new Alexandria Fire Truck to the school. Daniel explained and demonstrated the firefighter gear they wore and how it is used to protect and keep them safe in a fire. He also showed the parts of the new fire truck and demonstrated how much water pressure they were able to use. Some students even held the fire hose while water came shooting out! A special note of thanks to Daniel and Jason for taking the time to educate our students in fire safety.
We hope all families will implement a fire safety plan to use in their homes. We encourage you to go to website http://readyclassroom.discoveryeducation.com
