Meridian Mustangs run past NE Lutheran
WACO - A 26-point second quarter led to a 42-6 victory for the
Daykin Meridian Mustangs Friday night at Waco-Nebraska
Lutheran.
“We ran the ball really well,” Meridian coach Clint Jones said.
“Our line had some great blocks downfield and our backs ran really
tough.”
The Mustangs scored their first points in the initial quarter as
Josh Aude returned a punt blocked by Jonah Jordening for a
touchdown. Ryan Meyer ran in the two-point conversion.
In the second quarter, the Mustangs scored four times.
Jordening threw a 10-yard pass to Dustin Rohr and Jordening added
the two-point conversion on a run for a 16-0 lead.
Meyer then scored two touchdowns on runs of 32 and 36 yards. Both
conversion attempts failed, leaving Meridian with a 28-0 lead.
Nebraska Lutheran got on the scoreboard with a 65-yard touchdown
run.
The Mustangs finished out the second-quarter scoring with a 13-yard
touchdown run by Brian Heiserman. The conversion failed, but the
Meridian held a 34-6 lead at halftime
Meridian scored the only points of the second half in the third
quarter as Meyer scored on a five-yard run. Jordening threw to
Shane Roesler for the two-point conversion, putting the Mustangs up
42-6.
Meyer led the Mustangs in rushing with 170 yards on 13 carries.
Next action for the Mustangs, 1-0, will be Friday as they host
McCool Junction.
