Mustang Volleyball Goes 1-1 in Season Opener

The Meridian Mustang Volleyball team began their season with a home triangular against Silver Lake and Bruning-Davenport. The night began with the Lady Mustangs against Silver Lake. The Mustangs came up short in the first set losing 22-25 and in the second set 14-25. The Lady Mustangs was led in kills by Brandie Sykes 4; Allison Johnson 4; Brooke Hofstetter 3; Amber Hansel and Sondra McCord 2. Miranda Baxa led in setting with 13 assists on 59-64 attempts. Amanda Hansel led the Mustangs in digs going 9-9. Pacing the game with ace serves was Brandie Sykes with 3 and Amber Hansel with 1.
The second opponent of the night for the Lady Mustangs was the Bruning-Davenport Storm. Meridian led from start to finish in both sets; winning 25-17 and 25-17. The Lady Mustangs was led in kills by Sondra McCord 6; Amber Hansel 2; and Brooke Hofstetter, Brandie Sykes, Kristin VanWesten with 1. Miranda Baxa led in setting with 6 assists on 35-38 attempts. Amanda Hansel and Allison Johnson led in digs with 6-6 and 5-5. Setting the tone with ace serves was Brooke Hofstetter and Brandie Sykes with 2; and Amanda Hansel and Miranda Baxa with 1.
