Cheerleading! 08-09

by jaci brockmeyer

I trade sweat for strength. I trade doubt for belief. I trade cheerleading for nothing. This summer, the 2008-2009 cheerleaders participated in the UCA Camp at UNL. The camp was from June 11-14. In these four days, the cheerleaders--Amanda Arnold, Mariah Filipi, Kaitlyn Meyer, Jaci Brockmeyer, Chelsea Roesler, Amber Hansel, Danielle Aldrich, Allison Johnson and Crystal Brakhage--learned game cheers, extreme routines, and sideline cheers. These nine girls worked hard and received three trophies, seven superior ribbons, and one excellent ribbon and competed against eight different varsity teams from Nebraska.

One of the challenges that the Meridian Cheerleaders had to do was put together an eight-count line dance. The winner of that dance would win a giant cookie; and, of course, the Meridian girls won the giant Chocolate Chip Cookie. Another item you could win was the banana. In order to win this banana, the UCA staff had to choose a squad that had spirit, hard-working girls/guys, and improving individuals. Unfortunately, the Mustangs didn’t receive the banana.

The Mustangs have many things planned for this upcoming year. The cheerleaders will conduct a cheerleading clinic on September 26 during the Meridian/Exeter-Milligan football game. The cheerleaders will also be competing at the State Competition in Grand Island.

Good Luck to all of the Meridian Athletes!! Meridian cheerleaders are very excited to cheer for the Mustangs!!
