Season's Greetings from StuCo!

The holidays are always a busy time for us on the council. We have done many things in preparation for the coming events. So I will fill you in on all we have done the past few weeks.

As you know, we have been working hard on our new GO GREEN! project. We now have all of the recycling bins up and filling in the elementary and high school. We have them set up in the hallways for plastic and paper. When we get them full, we are planning on taking them to a recycling center.

We also sponsored a huge successful canned food drive. We challenged every class in the high school to bring 70 pounds each and the elementary classes to get 40 pounds each. Teachers and staff joined in and helped us reach our goal. Overall we donated over 1,300 pounds of food to the Blue Valley Community Action in Fairbury.

As for this coming month, we have many things on our agenda as well. We are currently selling raffle tickets for a donation to the Make-A-Wish foundation. We have many items such as MP4 players, light-up glasses, a personal CD player, and hand-held games as prizes. We will hold the drawing for the raffle prizes on December 18 at the Girls and Boys basketball game. You do not have to be present to win. Tickets are selling for $1 each or 3 for $2. Contact any student council member to get yours today!

It's time for Secret Santa again! The council always puts on a secret gift exchange for students and teachers. Whoever wants to participate should make certain to get signed up by Wednesday, December 12. We will be drawing for names on Friday, December 14. The Secret Santa Gift Exchange will take place the week of December 17 through December 21.

StuCo always likes to do something special for the faculty and staff. Every year we hold a Christmas Tea in the conference room. Every council member brings some kind of snack, or sweet treats, as well as hot cider, coffee, or cocoa for the teachers to have during the day. The Christmas Tea is scheduled for Wednesday, December 19.

But of course the students have to party too! We will be holding our annual Christmas party the day we get out of school for Christmas break, Friday, December 21. The council has many new and fun ideas for this year's party, but the plans are still under construction. So keep reading the StuCo news, and we'll make sure we keep you posted. Happy  Holidays!
